With just under a week left in April, and more snow in the forecast, the city of Grande Prairie has already smashed a 50-year-old snowfall record.
According to Meteorologist Josh Classen, 35 cm of snow has fallen in Grande Prairie so far this month.
This April’s 35cm ranks third on the record list. Second on the list is 40 cm in 1966 and holding the number 1 spot is 42cm in 1948.
In more recent years, there’s couple of times the city received more than 25 cm of snow in April; 31 cm in 2003 and 28 cm in 2002.
The average snowfall for April is 11 cm.
